Mama and Papa Fortunato flew into Pennsylvania (with a few hiccups, albeit, but all in one piece!). We spent a day at "home" in Hershey, then off to New York. This was Candice's first time there, so there was much to see. Including Mama Fortunato's family, which is an event all its' own!
We spent the first day eating lunch with Uncle Frankie at a great deli, and then joining Grandma and Grandpa Messina (Peggy's mother and stepfather). It was wonderful to meet this side of the family and put some faces to the endless stories I've heard!
We then ate at La Piazza. We spent the night at Uncle Frankie's, playing card games and gambling with his kids. The sounds of the house were filled with those booming Scalia voices... Mama Fortunato was right. She was the quiet one in her family, and that's saying something!
The next day, we were off to Manhattan. We snooped around for authentic knockoffs ;) and ended up in some back streets of Chinatown and Little Italy. We even had other followers that we had to shoo away. So funny! It's an experience that Candice and Mama Fortunato will never forget.
We went to Ground Zero, but wasn't able to see much due to upcoming construction. It will be interesting to see what is built on the grounds of something our country will never ever forget, and to follow the debate that still continues.
We ended our night by going to eat some BBQ at Famous Dave's and watched Lend Me a Tenor, Candice and Mike's first Broadway Show ever! :)
All in all, though it was a short stay, was a memorable first for Candice, and the first of many, many to come.
